Digging Deeper For Your Content Sets You Apart

I've been preaching it for years... sharing helpful, original content can drive long-term success in online business. Even if you do not sell information products, an information rich website will help you attract more traffic and close more sales.

Content is the back-bone of most great websites, newsletters, and obviously information products, which means successful webmasters need to constantly come up with unique and original content -- not an easy task.

Today I'll show you a few techniques that make is easier...

We live in a sea of information. And information overload is an increasingly common complaint. Part of the complaint arises because we get hit with different headlines that point to the same content. That means we end up wasting time on things that have no added value. And that's a drag.

When you send content to your subscriber list or put up content on your site, you want to generate loyalty. So it's important that you have content others haven't seen a dozen times elsewhere.

Do you know how to dig deep for information from which to develop original and unique content?

Here are some ideas you can use to EASILY generate fresh content with a minimal amount of time and effort...

Let's say your niche it's horticulture.

So let's go exploring at Google and show you how it's done...

Google has lots of tools, even though most people only use the Google home page to search. By using six more tools they offer, you can get deep inside any topic, so you can share what you find.

1. Google lets you check the news.
http://news.google.com

As of this writing, there are more than 2,000 news items listed by Google on the word horticulture. I'll bet you could easily do a summary of some of these articles and create your own content.

But let's not stop there...

2. Google "groups" show you what people are talking about.
http://groups.google.com/

These groups are made up of folks who like to discuss *your* subject. So now you can go even farther. Look up horticulture in their groups. Now this information is potentially gold. Why? Because you can see what it is about horticulture that lots of folks are interested in. And that's what business is all about - solving other people's problems!

Think you might be able to do a little research and come up with a free or even a for-profit report that gives them what they want?

3. Research through text of books through Google.
http://books.google.com/

Not only can you find books to help you with your research, you can actually search through the text of books on any topic. Not too many businesses go this deep, and this angle can provide research your customers and subscribers won't find with basic searches.

4. Search Blogs though Google.
http://blogsearch.google.com

Search results include all blogs on the web, not just those published through Google's Blogger. Blogs provide accurate and up-to-date results and are a great research tool. When using this research tool you'll discover lots of new information about your niche, that you can share!

5. Find out what scholars are saying.
http://scholar.google.com/

Google Scholar helps you find the most relevant research across the world of scholarly research including theses, books, abstracts and articles, from academic publishers, professional societies, universities and other scholarly organizations.

6. Search PDF documents at Google.
http://www.Google.com

Here's a clever trick most people do no know about. Try the following search at google.com (keeping in the punctuation as written):
+horticulture +free +filetype:pdf
As of this writing, Google shows about a million sites for this query. What you get here are free downloads in pdf format about your subject.

Using the information you uncover...

Again, you'll be using all the information you uncover in your articles, your website, your newsletter and your information products (giveaway or for sale.) So save everything you find in a single folder on your desktop.

Of course you can't simply copy and use the content as your own information. You have to create your writing in your own words. But there's no law that says you can't summarize what you find in other people's works. To make the point, you could even call your work something like: "Survey Report: Latest from the Horticulture Front!"

Now I'll close today's tip with one more resource you can use...

Go to Alexa.com. Do a search on your subject, in this example, horticulture. It provides the exact same results as Google because it's powered by Google. So why bother, right? Wrong. Because Alexa *does* provide value added information.

When you do the search, you don't want to click the link that takes you to the listed site. Instead you want to follow the link that says "Site info." When you do this, you'll find a section called: "People who visit this page also visit." This can be very valuable because it potentially shows *what the marketplace is interested in.* This can enable you to tailor your information product to what people want.

These are just some of the easy ways to branch out your explorations and find the nuggets that will set you apart from your competition.

The Truth about Driving Qualified Traffic to Your Website

Companies large and small are constantly seeking creative, high return strategies to increase visibility on the Internet. The quest for a high ranking position seems to be a never ending process. With most people there seems to be an endless search for the one answer on how to drive traffic to their website and turn those visitors into buyers.

There are countless methods to increase your visibility and revenues. Some are tremendously effective while others are a complete waste of time and money. Some require an extremely high financial investment while others require no money, just an investment of time. The goal of any company is to convert website visitors into buyers. Before you can do this, you must create a value for them.

The first method starts with becoming a resource before you are a vendor. This means creating credibility with your potential buyers before you ever ask for the sale. Hands down, one of the best ways to accomplish this is by offering something of high perceived value at no cost to visitors from your website. This could be a white paper, a content driven report, a how-to MP3 file, or an invitation to sign up for a seminar or business briefing.

In order to access the information or sign up for the seminar, have your visitors leave their contact information. It can be simply a name and email address or full contact information. The visitor will receive your free product and you will have gained a new contact.

The question then becomes, "How do I drive qualified visitors to my site?" Itís great to offer something from your site, but as with anything, you must know how to market your site to potential buyers.

One of the most cost-effective strategies to drive qualified traffic to your site(s) is through article writing and distribution to forums, discussion groups and Ezines that are specific to your market.

The articles must be content driven, not a blatant sales piece. With most online resources you can add what is referred to as a "resource box" at the end of the article. A resource box contains 2 - 4 sentences about you with a link back to your site.

A second effective method to drive traffic to websites is with solo ads in specific locations. Rather than trying to sell something in the solo ad, offer your free resources by giving a description of the item with a link back to where they can download or register.

Solo ads are very cost-effective and work well when placed in the right publications and sites. Again, it is based on knowing your market rather than randomly placing an ad and hoping for a result.

A third effective method in generating site traffic is to participate in Joint Venture (JV) Campaigns. In JV Campaigns, one person sells a product and dozens of other people offer a valuable bonus product with the purchase.

Basically, a bonus eProduct is offered as an incentive to buy another eProduct, book, product or service. With this type of campaign each JV Partner agrees to send a message to their readers about the campaign.

In order to have access to the bonus product, customers visit a landing page where there is a description of the bonus as well as a place to leave a name and email address in order to get the bonus.

The cost is minimal and yet the market reach is incredible, often exceeding millions. Only participate in JV campaigns with people who are reputable and their product fits with your market or message.

Regardless of which strategy you use to gain opt-in subscribers you must make sure your backend marketing systems are in place. Many businesses fail to utilize the power of Internet marketing to the fullest potential because they have no backend marketing systems. To not do this is a waste of time, money and energy.

By keeping in touch with current and potential customers you build trust and name recognition. You will be recognized as a resource before you are a vendor, putting you miles ahead of the competition.

Dealing with Digital Disease

A virus is a program that replicates itself. It cannot exist on its own so it attaches to another program, usually an executable one. A worm is like a virus - it also replicates itself. However, it can stand on its own and does not need another program to run. It usually infects your computerís networking features, which includes its internet connection.

Spyware and adware go hand-in-hand. Spyware is a kind of program which gathers information, specifically browsing habits. It tracks down what kind of sites you visit, and the adware will generate ads that fit with your interest which the spyware based on information it gathered in the first place.

Malware is malicious software. Itís any program that is useless, or worse, destructive. A Trojan a program pretending to be good but once itís deep in your system it proves to be quite the opposite.

In spite of all their differences, they have one thing in common: they are out to give you headaches by rendering your computer unusable.

To protect your computer as much as possible from being infected, here are four dangerous activities that you should avoid, or at least minimize:
  • Opening email attachments

    Do not open any email attachments if they arenít scanned by antivirus software. Worms can spread through email, so even a friend can unwittingly send you one by way of an attachment.

  • Internet File-sharing

    In file-sharing via the internet, your computer is exposed and open to others it is communicating with. If other computersí files can be transferred to yours, the same thing can be said about a virus, if the others are infected.

  • Downloading free software of questionable origins

    Free software is free for a reason. If you bothered to read the End User License Agreement (EULA) of a software you are installing - which you probably didnít - you most likely will come upon a short and tiny clause saying that if you agree to the terms, you are allowing advertisements to pop up on your screen, or other software to be installed in your system. So be careful with what you download. Read product reviews and find out if other people got headaches from using it.

  • Visiting ad-heavy sites

    If you visit a site and youíre immediately bombarded with pop-up ads, leave immediately. You might click on an ad that activates an automatic download of malicious software to your computer.

Here is a list of activities which you should be doing instead:
  • Invest in good antivirus software. Going online without the protection of antivirus software is like going out naked in the snow. Thatís just how vulnerable an unprotected computer is.

  • Most antivirus software packages include an internet security program (also known as firewall). A firewall acts as a barricade between you and unwanted content from the internet. When buying antivirus software, itís better to shell out for the internet security as well.

  • Once antivirus software is installed in your computer, keep it updated always so it can recognize and remove newly released viruses.

  • Whatever browser you are using, check that its security settings are all in default unless you really know what you are doing.

  • Periodically delete files that you no longer use.

  • Download spyware- and adware-removal tools and run them at least once a week. Be warned that many of these removal programs are a scam, so make sure that what you download is reliable. You can easily search for product reviews to check if the program is legitimate or otherwise.

  • Back up all your important files all the time.

  • If possible, have two computers at home. One will be used to connect to the internet, and the other should not be connected at all. The second computer will act as storage of all your important files so that even if the first one crashes, your life wonít be in ruins.

Donít be dependent on removal tools and antivirus software packages, though. A bit of prevention is always worth a megabyte of cure.
