The mind is easily tricked by optical as well as literary illusions.
You're probably familiar with optical illusions. There are numerous books and sites showing pictures that can be seen in a variety of ways. One famous image looks like an old woman -- until you stare a little longer and suddenly see the profile of a young woman in the same image.
Something similar can happen with words. After all, words are images, too. They are subject to the blind spots in our brains. For proof, read the following.

Fascinating, isn't it?
I'm not advocating mis-spelling words or intentionally misleading people. I'm demonstrating a principle. Your mind is vulnerable. It can see things that aren't there and miss things that are there. This is important information. It's what allows magicians the ability to fool us.
So, how does this fact help you with your sales letters, ads, emails, websites and any other writing you do?
Here's how: You can consciously weave your words in such a way that people fill in the blanks. In other words, you can help them imagine buying your product or service without asking them to get it. This is the sport of hypnotic writing. Here's an elementary example:
"Imagine driving this sleek car down a country road."
What did you see in your mind?
Most likely you imagined a sports car.
But why a sports car?
The word "sleek" led your mind to create a visual. That image came from your mind, not mine. I gave you a prompt and your mind leaped to a conclusion. Minds are like that.
Also, in the paragraph before that example, I planted the word "sport" in your mind.
Did you notice it?
It's where I wrote, "This is the sport of hypnotic writing."
The word "sport" was already in your consciousness, and was easy to bring up when I asked you to imagine a "sleek car."
I was talking with my hero Kevin Hogan (author of "The Psychology of Persuasion" and everything else about influence...) and he says that if you can actually get your customer to see themselves doing or using whatever it is your product does, you win big. The trick is, they have to imagine themselves with your product.
Showing how another person is going to experience something or has experienced something isn't enough to push the "yes" button in most people.
In other words, "Yeah, John felt the same way, then he tried this and found it worked" is a weak persuasion tool.
Kevin explains it this way:
"Joe, what you want your participants to do is see themselves writing ad copy and then have them see themselves getting the incredible results of Hypnotic Writing. Specifically. The orders racing into their email box. Not yours or mine."I went to the MSN home page and saw a headline that read, "See a Ferrari laptop." I like sports cars, so I clicked. Imagine my surprise when I saw a picture of a laptop computer, not a convertible. My mind highlighted the word Ferrari and let me slide past the next word.
I could go on and on. For example, sometimes I end a letter with "Stop buy and see us." Few note I used the word "buy" instead of "by." The mind sees it as "stop and buy."
I learned that subtle method when a friend of mine out of town ended an email with the words, "Take Car." He meant to say, "Take Care." He slipped and wrote "Take Car" as a way to speak to my mind and urge me to drive and see him.
In short, these "mind gaps" can be cause for confusion, or for communication. I can't explain all the ins and outs of this rarely looked at subject here but let this article be a stimulus for your own thinking -- without the mind gaps.

How To Choose Your Own Domain Name
A domain name is a must have. To be taken seriously online you will need to have your own domain name...
This is your identity and how people will find you. People are more likely to trust you if you are email@example.com rather than firstname.lastname@example.org
Your domain is made up of a number of words and numbers. Now there are several options around like .biz .info .net .tv and others. Should you use one of these or even a country based one like Australia's .com.au ?
First question you need to ask before getting a country option is do I only want to sell to that one country? Even if you do you should look at getting a .com (dot-com) name as well as a country based name.
It gives you the look of a big trustworthy company. Dot com names have several advantages:
Now we move on to what words you want to have in your domain. You need to look over potential "Keywords" to include in it.
Keywords (or keyword phases) are words people use to look for your type of business.
To choose the best keywords for your name you need to know what people are searching for online:
1. Good Keywords -This piece of free software will give you results of words and amounts per month being searched in Overture.com one of the bigger Pay Per Click search engines.
2. Digitalpoint.com -This site does a comparison to the two major tools for keywords, overture and wordtracker. (wordtracker.com is a paid keyword tool) Here are the results for news:
Lets do an example -Lets say I am doing a site on martial arts:
From overture here are the results:
martial art,143576So this gives me an idea of what searchers are looking for so possible domains would be:
MartialArtsupply.com orThe actual domain name would be based on what I was doing, and I'm selling equipment so maybe:
MartialArtEquipment4Sale.comFrom here there are 3 other things to consider:
1. The use of hyphensHyphens - hyphens gives more options with our choices. In our example above I could use:
Martial-Art-Equipment-4-Sale.com orHyphens are ok for businesses when you don't need to explain them in a verbal way, so if you plan to advertise on the radio then they are not for you. But if most of your visitors would click on a link online, then it's an easy way to read and helps with availability of names.
Availability - Sometimes you may need to search for variations on your keyword, so to keep your options open DirectNic allows you to search for a name and then generates a whole large list of similar available names.
Listing in directory's vs Search engines - Search engines seem to prefer keywords within the domain name, depending on which marketing expert you listen too, It helps your chances of a high ranking. (Links to sites are becoming a major feature in who comes up first but that's a whole new subject)
Directory's tend to be slightly different in their approach, normally listings are decided by alphabetical order, with numbers first.
Yahoo.com is the most well know of directories. (listings are decided by humans and then web search results follow) At the moment when you search at yahoo results directory results come up first followed by any web results.
Listings in directories have added bonuses in that these count as links to your site especially since these are prominent sites.
So using our example: Martial Art Equipment would be best using:
1-Martial-Art-Equipment.com orIn this case we have a good keyword type name which should be listed first in Directory's like Yahoo and Dmoz.org. These directories are awake to this, so when you list your domain, its best to use the company name as the same as your domain. So when I am asked for a "registrant" I will use 1st -Martial-Art- Equipment.com as the name of the owner.

The most difficult part of advertising is often just coming up with the idea. Even the most successful writers can get stuck at times. Here are some ways to produce advertising ideas that SELL!
First of all, it is important to get the facts. You need to know specific facts about the product as well as facts about the audience you want to target. Get all of the information you can! Read magazines, flyers, newsletters, and even junk mail. Also, talk with people. Go to classes and seminars or attend meetings. You never know when the information you learn will be useful.
Try using a checklist. When you're stuck for an idea, a checklist can help you come up with different possibilities or strategies. You could make a checklist for headlines, or a checklist for why people buy products. This will help you get headed in the right direction.
Get feedback. The way you see your ideas may be completely different than the way others see them. Show your rough ideas to others. Or, have someone look at your finished copy and give you their opinion on how it might be improved.
Try teaming up. If you are a copywriter, you could team up with an art director. Or if you are an entrepreneur you might team up with a corporate manager. A partner can expand upon your ideas and could make them even better.
Sleep on it! Sometimes you need to just put the problem aside. You're probably thinking about it way too much. You might be surprised when the perfect idea comes to you "out of the blue."
